This unique and exclusive brown topaz necklace is made of transparent to brownish imperial topaz (AAA quality) pear-shaped and faceted beads, faceted smokey quartz and faceted Herkimer diamond beads, and Thai and sterling silver. It is finished with a magnetic clasp. A comfortable fit to wear this necklace all day long. Easy to close and open with a ‘break’ or ‘ shift’ movement.

You will love the topaz for its transparency. The pear-shaped beads are faceted and in the light, the little facets provide a soft shine on your face. Imperial topaz, which the necklace is made from, is the best quality topaz available.

In the 16th and 17th centuries due to trading companies, like the V.O.C., whale fat was available on the market. This fat was perfect to make candles of. The candles they used in earlier times were made of wax, and they were finished in an hour and they gave a lot of smoke.

The personnel of the nobles that attended parties, had a daytime job (or nighttime job) to change the candles. And the dresses became very dirty from that smoke. Not to mention the pieces of jewelry, that were cut in cabochon style, that could not be cleaned properly.

A jewelry designer in Paris ‘invented’ polishing the gemstones with facets. He became very famous and very busy, since everyone wanted that faceted jewelry, due to the fact that it caught the light so beautifully.
