On my last trip to South Africa, I found the huge faceted carnelian beads. The facets catch the light beautifully and that light falls on your face. From an earlier trip, I still had some agate tube-shaped beads with a whitish decoration stripe on them and I decided to combine the two to make an ‘African feel’ necklace. The only non-African part is the huge Thai silver bead next to the carnelian, to make the design complete.

Thai silver beads are made by the Karen tribe in Northern Thailand, Already for centuries they made stunning beads, of more than 97% silver (sterling silver has 92% silver).
